History of Motion Pictures

The history of Motion Pictures begins, like most things, in legend. No one moment in time or specific place can be viewed as the birthplace of Motion Pictures, or the Motion Picture industry. As with most things, it was not born out of a flash of brilliant innovation, but by the codification of existing ideas, techniques and equipment into a new paradigm. It can be said that the illusion of motion created by the quick interchange of still images, a technique known for centuries, represents the earliest foundation of what would become our modern notion of Motion Pictures.
